Editorial by the President: Start of a challenging winter semester 2020/21

Dear readers,

it’s good to have you here! Your gaze falls on the first issue of our university magazine “Campuls,” which is being published exclusively in digital format for the first time. The last issue already successfully tested the new digital format and, among other things, created meaningful links to our social media channels.

A warm welcome!

Due to Corona being a little later than usual, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to our new students in particular! It is a great pleasure for us to support you in the best possible way as you settle in at our university, but also in your new city of study. I am sure that you have not only made use of the first semester days at the beginning of October, but also of many other advisory services since then and will continue to do so. In any case, it is worthwhile – in addition to dedicated study and work – to go on a journey of discovery in Hof and the region again and again. I am sure that you will enjoy your time at our university and will have fond memories of it later.

Our hygiene concept – flexible and appropriate

The winter semester 2020/21 has started with a mix of online and face-to-face teaching. Our hygiene concept is constantly adapted to the respective situation and designed to ensure the greatest possible safety for students, lecturers and our staff.

A binding framework applies throughout Bavaria for lectures in the winter semester: A maximum of 200 people may attend a face-to-face course. To enable the health authorities to trace infection chains, the data of all participants in each face-to-face teaching event must be documented – taking into account the requirements of data protection. The minimum distance of 1.50 meters must be maintained during teaching events. Where the minimum distance cannot be reliably maintained, for example in traffic and meeting areas within university buildings, mouth-to-nose coverings must be worn.

Thanks for great commitment

Nevertheless, we would also like to create as much normality as possible so that everyone in their place can concentrate as best they can on their studies or work. In this context, I would once again like to express my sincere thanks to all professors and our staff, who make the implementation of the hygiene rules possible through their great flexibility and dedication – especially with regard to the creation of the technical possibilities.

Focus: The Textile Technology Center in Münchberg

It was not difficult to find the focus for this issue of “Campuls”: With the inauguration of the new technical center for textile technology and air conditioning at our site in Münchberg, a valuable basis for research and teaching has been created. Especially out-of-town students should know that their study region has a rich history regarding the textile industry. The new technical center and innovative courses of study build on this tradition and take it into the future.

In its new look, “Campuls” brings the latest information about Hof University of Applied Sciences to your screen in an easy-to-read format, and I would be pleased if you decided to subscribe free of charge (please note the red button on these pages).

I hope you enjoy reading it!

Yours

Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Jürgen Lehmann
